baramundi Mobile Devices (bMD)
The baramundi Mobile Devices management solution has been designed and developed with great care and in accordance with applicable German data protection requirements. The purpose of the solution is to help administrators securely integrate mobile devices into their organisation’s IT infrastructure. The focus is on device management rather than access to or monitoring of application content.
With regard to the baramundi Mobile Devices (bMD) module, please note that the following activities are not possible by design through the baramundi Management Suite in conjunction with the locally installed baramundi Agent application:
- bMD does not access or collect contact information from address books (such as names, telephone numbers or other contact details).
- bMD cannot access, collect or monitor SMS messages, including message content or communication logs.
- bMD does not provide access to the contents of email mailboxes.
- bMD does not collect call logs or call history information.
- bMD does not provide access to content stored within third-party communication applications, such as WhatsApp.
- bMD cannot intercept, record or monitor telephone calls.
- bMD does not have access to a device’s microphone and cannot be used to monitor or record surrounding audio.
- bMD does not provide access to media files stored on the device, such as photographs, videos or other media content.
- bMD does not store location data locally or transmit location data to the server. The sole exception applies to iOS devices that have been placed in “Lost Mode”.
Access to smartphone hardware features is limited and used only where necessary for specific management functions:
- bMD uses access to the device camera solely for scanning a QR code during the device enrolment process.
- Under iOS, bMD uses location services exclusively to locate a device that has been placed in “Lost Mode”. If this feature is activated, the user will be notified accordingly.
- Under Android Enterprise in the “Fully Managed” and “Dedicated Device” deployment profiles, bMD requires access to location services in order to inventory Wi-Fi networks stored on the device.
- Under Android Enterprise in the “Work Profile” deployment profile, bMD requires access to location services in order to inventory Wi-Fi networks stored within the work profile. Wi-Fi networks manually configured by the user on the device are not transmitted to the server.
bMD is designed to support a range of standard mobile device management functions, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Inventorying applications installed on the device.
- Detecting unauthorised modifications to the device firmware, including jailbreaking* and rooting.
- Configuring security settings, policies and device restrictions.
- Remotely wiping the device and/or uninstalling managed applications.
*) To enhance the detection of unauthorised device modifications on iOS, we recommend using the baramundi Push Service Infrastructure. For this purpose, the baramundi Management Server transmits the following data to a centrally operated baramundi service:
- A unique, anonymous identifier of the baramundi Management Suite (bMS) installation.
- The push token generated by Apple for the device.
- The device's iOS version.
- The version of the bMD Agent application installed on the device.
This functionality can be enabled within the bMD configuration settings and is disabled by default.
Further details regarding the functionality and features of bMD can be found, among other places, in the Release Notes.
Google Play Store Applications
To provide the enhanced management capabilities of the baramundi Mobile Agent, a device administrator component is configured on your device and may require activation by you.

Windows Phone and iOS Applications
To provide the enhanced management capabilities of baramundi Mobile Devices, the baramundi Mobile Agent must be installed on your device.
