Termination Calls for a New Direction

For a long time, Adelholzener relied on Ivanti’s DSM for IT management. However, as the product was being phased out, a reevaluation became necessary. Bernhard Buchner, an IT expert at Adelholzener, explains:
“In addition to the end-of-life announcement, there were numerous reasons to rethink our use of Ivanti DSM at Adelholzener. We were using not only Ivanti’s software deployment solution but also its ticket system. With both products, we felt we lacked consulting support from a partner who treated us as equals. Furthermore, the Ivanti licenses for patch management had to be renewed. Overall, the Ivanti product wasn’t the best fit for us. We took this

These circumstances prompted us to consider switching products.
So we thought about what we absolutely needed and drew up a detailed list of requirements. The core topics included asset inventory, software deployment—
both operating system installation and packaging—as well as the implementation of a comprehensive CMDB and an ITIL v4-compliant ticket system. With these expectations in mind, we approached Ivanti to develop a concept and a cost estimate. At the same time, we researched alternatives on the market.”

The Right Product for Every Need

“Our colleagues in Munich from the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, to which Adelholzener belongs, brought baramundi to our attention. There, we found the right product to meet all our needs.

We began the implementation process with the baramundi inventory solution and ticketing system, since we had previously been using only a custom-programmed solution for inventory management that was already quite outdated. Gradually, we expanded the baramundi ecosystem at Adelholzener and added various

products. Subsequently, we set up OS installation and patch management, which we are gradually using to replace DSM packaging during a migration phase.”

First Test Passed

"Our first real test of the baramundi solutions was our KRITIS audit, during which the CMDB, the ticket system, and the inventory were scrutinized in detail. We successfully completed this audit—without a single non-conformity regarding the IT team’s operations or the mapping of processes using baramundi."

"We also paid close attention to improvements in efficiency, of course. In particular, the time savings and the centralized management of hardware and software have noticeably improved our department's performance. In summary, I can say this about the switch to baramundi: It just works."
