AGES, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety GmbH, is a government agency of the Republic of Austria. It provides independent, expert scientific advice to federal ministries on matters of public health, animal health, food safety, drug safety, food security, and consumer protection throughout the food chain.

To carry out its daily work with the highest level of professionalism, the company needs a professional and smoothly functioning IT environment that provides the best possible support for its workflows and processes. Since 2005, AGES has relied on the Augsburg-based software provider baramundi software GmbH to manage its 2,300 clients, spread across 6 locations and 11 facilities. In addition to conventional PC clients and virtual clients, the client structure includes approximately 700 laptops and specialized laboratory equipment.
When AGES was founded in 2002, 18 federal agencies and offices were consolidated into a single organization. In addition to its headquarters in Vienna’s 22nd district, the organization has six other locations in Austria with nine facilities and employs 1,398 people.
Centralized IT management is the foundation of professional IT operations
Each federal agency had its own IT managers and its own procedures and standards. At each location, the IT administrator had to manually handle the distribution of software and its updates, as well as client management, through “on-site administration.”
Lechner and his colleagues use various modules of the baramundi Management Suite for cross-location endpoint management.
Smartphones and tablets have become an indispensable part of everyday business operations at AGES as well. To manage the 400 mobile clients, the colleagues in AGES Client Management also use the baramundi Management Suite.
These mobile devices are integrated into the management solution using QR codes. This user-friendly process enables quick and automated configuration of the devices.
