Mobile Device Management (MDM)

Mobile Device Management (MDM)

Mobile Device Management (MDM) refers to the management and control of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. Together with Mobile Application Management (MAM) and Mobile Content Management (MCM), MDM is one of the pillars of Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM).

MDM enables IT administrators to define and enforce security, configuration and access rights policies and settingson mobile devices. Those include password requirements, file access and usage settings, WLAN and VPN configurations, and app and content restrictions. MDM also is used to ensure that mobile devices receive appropriate OS updates and software patches.
