Vulnerability Management

Vulnerability Management

Vulnerability management is a regular, automated process that ideally is integrated into a holistic security management strategy. The goal is to identify potential security gaps to improve overall IT and operational security.

The vulnerability management process involves identification ofvulnerabilities, assessment of risks, appropriate remediation actions, and documentation of status and progress.

IT admins can use a variety of vulnerability management tools and strategies. Automated vulnerability scanners examine systems, applications and networks for known vulnerabilities and generate reports on identified vulnerabilities. Update management – regularly updating software and operating systems – also is important. In addition, IT professionals can use security policies and best practices for secure passwords, access restrictions and other measures to ensure that systems are configured securely.
