Flexible and secure mobile device and enterprise mobility management

BARAMUNDI CHECKLISTS provide concise, step-by-step expert advice for handling common IT challenges in a straightforward way. You can find more checklists here.

Mobile devices are more than convenient; users today demand and expect the ability to use their own or company-provided smartphones, tablets and other devices for work. The right mobile device management (MDM) or enterprise mobility management (EMM) strategy ensures that users can enjoy the benefits of mobile computing without compromising their company's data and network security.

1. Flexible mobile device policies

Both Android and iOS support Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Corporate Owned Personally Enabled (COPE) options allowing the use of employee-owned devices for work or company-provided devices for personal purposes. Each enables IT admins to manage devices securely and reduces the risks of unauthorized shadow IT hardware and apps.

2. Native data separation

Android Work Profiles and iOS User Enrollment support native containerization for consistent and secure separation of company apps and data and users’ private content. IT admins can configure, manage and secure company-related applications, network connections and data access.

3. Block and allow lists

Dedicated Allow lists ensure that only authorized and secure apps needed for work are installed in the company-managed area of the device. Block lists can also be used to prevent the installation and use of inappropriate or insecure apps and content.

4. Automated updates and backups

Timely and automated system and app updates improve device security and functionality. Regular backups also enable prompt provisioning and configuration of replacement devices in the event of theft, loss or damage.

5. Set and enforce device security policies

Clearly set and consistently enforced device security policies are a must. Don’t ever cut corners. That means measures such as complex password requirements, automatic VPN connections, and prompt remote wiping and removal of lost or stolen devices from the company network.

6. Out of the box experience

A positive side effect of an EMM solution: Admins save themselves the manual configuration of new devices, but can send them directly from the dealer and thus provide the user with a pre-configured, now fully operational device.

The baramundi Management Suite (bMS) module Mobile Devices provides all of the power and capabilities needed for secure and efficient MDM.
