For more than 25 years, Stadtwerke Böhmetal GmbH has been providing households, commercial businesses and industrial companies in the Walsrode/Bad Fallingbostel and Bomlitz areas of the southern Heidekreis district with a safe and affordable supply of electricity, natural gas and water. Together with its municipal services division, which is responsible for wastewater management, and its leisure facilities division, which operates four swimming pools, Stadtwerke Böhmetal employs around 160 people, approximately 110 of whom work directly for the utility company.

As a critical infrastructure (KRITIS) operator, Stadtwerke Böhmetal has a particular responsibility and must meet exceptionally high standards for security and reliability. This places a strong focus on the IT team, led by Ian Baumann. Together with his three colleagues, he is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of around 220 endpoints across ten different locations, as well as two server sites.

Inefficient solutions were holding back productivity

“We had previously been using a commercial solution to manage our mobile devices, but it was unreliable. Jobs regularly generated error messages. We also used a separate application for our Windows clients. While its remote access functionality worked well, installing software through jobs was very time-consuming and, as a result, was hardly ever used. On top of that, we had no way to monitor the hardware of our endpoints,” Böger explains.

baramundi delivers across the board – implemented in just two days

“What impressed us from the very beginning was the ability for users to request jobs themselves through the Kiosk. The automation capabilities of Automation Studio and the OS installation features also looked like they could save us a significant amount of time. The Vulnerability Scanner has been another major benefit for the security of our critical infrastructure, as it allows us to identify and remediate vulnerabilities much faster.

Last but not least, we were also very impressed with the DEX solution. The transition was straightforward for us: As part of a workshop, we implemented the Management Suite in just two days.

..."With baramundi perform2work, we can finally see which apps are crashing on users’ devices and what the actual performance of our endpoints looks like in day-to-day use. My personal favorite, however, is the network check, which makes it easy to identify the causes of unstable connections.”

Significant time savings on routine tasks

“To be honest, I was surprised by how much time we can save by automating OS and software installations. In the past, setting up a single computer could take us around one to one and a half working days. Now, we can get it done in just about four hours.

Overall, we’ve already been able to free up around 25–30% of our working time previously spent on routine tasks. And that figure is continuing to rise as we automate more and more of these processes.

This has also improved employee satisfaction, as we can resolve issues more quickly and easily. Most importantly, we no longer have to wait for users to be at their desks before we can help them. Now, we simply trigger the job, and the solution is deployed automatically as soon as the computer is available on the network.”

Conclusion

“Switching to baramundi has really paid off for us, and not just because of the automation. The support from baramundi is truly outstanding. We always get help very quickly and never have to wait weeks for a response. The Knowledge Base and forum are also very informative and helpful. All in all, we’re extremely happy with baramundi and would definitely recommend it.”
