Data governance refers to the framework of policies, processes, and responsibilities that defines who can access which data, how that data is stored, classified, and shared — and who is accountable for it. For IT administrators, this is not an abstract management concept, but part of everyday operations: assigning access permissions, documenting data flows, enforcing retention and deletion policies, and providing audit logs.
