Transparency

Transparency

Transparency in IT refers to the ongoing, in-depth collection and disclosure of information, processes and decisions related to the hardware and software used in a network. Transparency makes it possible to view and understand all IT activities, systems and data and ensures a high degree of clarity and coordination within the IT department and other areas of the organization. Measures that provide transparency at the technical level include consistent and regular updating of IT asset inventories and network monitoring.

More broadly, transparency is important for effective internal communication, for setting and monitoring service level agreements (SLAs), for accurate and timely knowledge databases, and for documenting IT practices, systems and processes.
